233: Olesha Haskett – Focusing on Boudoir Photography of Black Women

In today’s episode, we’re honored to have Olesha Haskett, a trailblazing diversity boudoir educator, international boudoir photographer, and founder of Coterie Noire, an educational boudoir community that celebrates and captures the essence of black women. Olesha is also the brains behind CCP, the Coterie Credential program, certifying boudoir photographers to capture the beauty of black women without bias.

For Olesha, boudoir photography is her happy place. It provides a unique platform for her to connect with women on a personal level. This connection is crucial for Olesha, who has always valued the space to connect with other women, guiding and helping them see and appreciate themselves as they are now.

Listen in as Olesha shares with us valuable insights for photographers aiming to capture the beauty of black women. Key considerations include:

  • Collaborating with a hair and makeup artist proficient in textured hair and various skin tones.
  • Understanding retouching nuances to avoid washing out skin tones and addressing hyperpigmentation.
  • Adapting posing and lighting techniques to highlight and celebrate the curves that many black women appreciate.
  • Intentional inclusivity marketing strategy to attract black individuals and people of color into portfolios.
  • Genuine allyship, emphasizing the importance of listening to stories

Don’t forget to grab your copy of Olesha’s “The Culture Checklist” a comprehensive guide encompassing education, representation, sensitivity, communication, and language. This tool empowers allies to understand their role in supporting underrepresented communities.

232: Jason Marino = Photographer’s Journey with ADHD plus Transitioning from Weddings to Portraits

This is a replay of one of the most popular episodes of The Profitable Photographer with Luci Dumas. I received many comments about how helpful my conversation with Jason Marino was it was after it aired. Soooo…thought it deserved a repost….Luci

“If anyone is like me and has dealt with ADHD for a long time and just can’t seem to figure it out. I really encourage people to get the help you need and watch your life change.”

On this episode of The Profitable Photographer Podcast, I have guest Jason Marino sharing his ideas about creating an incredible client experience, and how he transitioned from weddings to portraits.. He also opens up about his challenge in life and in his photography business productivity: ADHD!

Jason is known throughout the photo industry as a lighting, business and client experience expert. He and his wife JoAnne co-run a multi-brand photography company, Imagine Photography, in Arizona, just outside Sin City, Las Vegas.

With a client roster spanning the globe and a bustling studio that has grossed well over a million dollars in recent years ( love to hear it!), Jason also keeps busy with regular appearances at notable conferences and educational summits.

In the midst of this, Jason has struggled with ADHD his whole life, but only recently opened up about it, finally seeking out the help that he needed. His life (AND PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS) is a million times better for it!

Finally feeling focused, Jason and I chatted about:

• How treatment for ADHD changed his life and business

• Best software for running your photography business

• Creating a prominent brand in a small town

• The “art of saying no”

• And more!

Hearing how someone is wildly successful in this industry, while navigating the challenges

such as ADHD or any life issue is inspiring to say the least.

The Profitable Photographer Sales Academy – Getting Started

Welcome to The Profitable Photographer Sales Academy and congratulations for taking a leap that will help you increase your sales by 2, 4, or even 10 times what you are already doing. I have developed my sales system over 37 years as a full-time portrait and wedding photographer. I have been successfully teaching my one-on-one and group coaching clients how to have $2000, 5000, 12,000 sales and more.

And now you have access to the secrets that position you as the Trusted Advisor, which puts you in the driver’s seat during your sales sessions, without coming across as pushy or needing to talk them into ordering well.

A couple of suggestions before you begin…

  1. Be sure to join the private group. This way you can ask questions and make comments that will support your growth and help everyone learn
    and grow along with you.
  2. Also, I want to encourage you to listen with your full attention each time. Take notes, especially to the first part of each module as there are
specific lessons in this section that build on the ones after.
  3. There is a YouTube video that is an in-depth class on how I do the actual sale, with my 2 success secrets that can turn a good sale into an
amazing order. You can find it on YouTube under The Profitable Photographer with Luci Dumas August 25, 2019.
  4. Included in your program are outlines to download, where you can take notes as you listen and refer back to over and over. Be sure to
    download these.

Here are some additional details about the lessons.

This course is a step-by-step program to help you know what to do and what to say that will ultimately result in large portrait and wedding orders in a way that your clients will love. It was recorded over 6 months as a live group class focused on selling photographs using an In-Person Sales Model.

There are 6 Modules to the course and 2 recordings in each module. The first recording in each Module has more teaching with some question-and-answer time. The second recording in each module is a quick review and more time for practice, questions, and some one one-on-one coaching.

  • Module One is is an overview of the steps, a pricing for profit model, and q and a from the live class.
  • Module Two Is all about the telephone…why it is important and how to have a great conversation that plants the seeds for the big orders.
  • Three is all about the consultation and how to continue to “water and fertilize” our clients desires for wall art and albums.
  • Four covers the portrait session…both how to photograph for larger orders and multiple wall portrait sales, and what to say that excited them
  • about the results.
  • Five is on the In Person Sale itself. I have a few tricks that make it easy to sell large portraits that clients love.
  • Six is all about handling objections.

In the first recording, I share the principle of becoming the Trusted Advisor, introduce you to the steps in the sales room in this recording, and the overall system I have used for 37 years resulting in large portrait orders that almost always include 3 to 7 portraits and an album.

I am super excited that you are beginning this journey with me to become a master at selling your photography and building a business that will make your clients super happy and your dreams come true. I believe in you and I know you can do this. Feel free to reach out to me with questions or for more support.

Now on Module One.

231: Tanya Goodall Smith – Framing Your Identity: The Power of Photography Branding

231: Tanya Goodall Smith – Framing Your Identity: The Power of Photography Branding

This week I am so happy to welcome back second-time guest, Tanya Goodall Smith. It’s been a few years since Tanya was on the podcast, and I very much enjoyed sitting down to talk with her about all things Branding, and how defining your brand can lead to better decision-making and attracting the right clients.

Believe it or not, Tanya left her 15-year corporate design career when she recognized there was a lack of high-quality branding options for creatives. She founded WorkStory Creative to fill the gap and help us build authority, raise perceived value, and attract high-end clients through authentic and beautiful brand storytelling. Now, she does a little bit of everything when it comes to helping their clients define their brand: design, branding photography, and even a little bit of copy.

Listen in as Tanya and I discuss:

  • the power of brand strategy
  • how your ideal client impacts your brand
  • visual elements of branding
  • the importance of copy and style guides
  • when it’s time to rebrand

But, that’s not all. Tanya is even here to help you define your brand! Be sure to visit workstorycreative.com/brandquiz to find your brand style.

She also has a Brand Your Biz Kit that is $50 off for podcast listeners with code LUCI50.
