Hey lovely listeners! I am delighted to share my conversation with the fabulous Tanya Goodall Smith.
She has been on the show two other times and this time, she has a wonderful new book we are going to chat about, “The Introvert’s Guide To Personal Branding: How To Put Yourself Out There Without Changing Who You Are”. It is a great read and wow, did it open my eyes to the power of introverts in the photography world!
It also goes deep into the topic of personal branding, which is a great tool to be seen and known without having to do what the extroverts do to get positive attention
You can trust her guidance as the founder of WorkStory Creative, an agency that helps introverts who are evolving their business create an elevated brand vision and bring it to life. She has 20 years of experience at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, designing for with international brands like HP, Disney and GUESS. And is a Brand Builder’s Group Certified Personal Branding Strategist.
Key takeaways from our conversation:
• Introverts as Superstars: How introverted tendencies can be turned into advantages for success.
• Famous Introverts: Even some well-known performers and photographers are introverts who’ve learned to thrive.
• Overcoming Fear: The fear of being on camera or criticized can be tamed by focusing on the value you’re bringing.
• Feel the Fear & Do It Anyway: Tanya’s mantra for introverts looking to step out of their comfort zones.
• Power of Personal Branding: How a strong brand can communicate for you when you’re not keen on the spotlight.
As always, thanks for subscribing, commenting, and sharing your thoughts.
Hey, brilliant photographers! Today’s episode is all about kicking those mindset roadblocks to the curb with Jeff Brown, a very special human that loves to support people to become highly profitable. Let’s dive into the juicy details from our chat:
Background: Photographer, Author and mentor, Jeff started his photography career in the Royal Navy (yes, he is British) and has owned five photography companies of his own. t Plus, he’s shot over 750 weddings! Talk about skills. He’s on a mission to spread motivation and inspiration like confetti, folks!
Writing Whiz: Jeff isn’t just a pro behind the lens; he’s also penned four No.1 best-selling books for photographers.
Ambassador Extraordinaire: Not content with just conquering the photography world, Jeff’s also President of the British Institute of Professional Photographers, a brand and marketing ambassador for some heavy hitters like OM SYSTEM and much more. Talk about wearing many hats!
Mindset Magic: Ever heard of the saying, “What you believe, you can achieve”? Jeff’s all about that. Listen to his journey from failure and depression to living the life he loves.
Jeff dropped some serious wisdom bombs and steps to change your mindset. He suggests we…
set up a vision and type it up as if it is already done.
look at others that are successful to discover what is possible
read books, listen to famous people’s stories,
cultivate gratitude…write three things in the person, possession, and experience every day
be generous
limit your exposure to negativity
fear…challenge your fears and take their power away
He leaves us with this suggestion…Instead of sweating over your photography skills, Jeff reminds us to focus on our branding and perceived value. Wise words, indeed!
So, folks, if you’re ready to level up your mindset game and unleash your potential listen to the audio or watch the video.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”
Okay, gang…this episode is on the topic of Fear and how we can not let it hold us back from our greatness. As a solo episode, I dive into the topic and take a look at why we need to “Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway” (which is the name of my favorite book by the way on the subject)
I share with you some of my journey, starting with a core thought that I used to have all the time is that I would end up losing everything and becoming a ‘bag lady”…and how I changed that thought and am able to take big risks with confidence.
I look at what we are afraid of and how most times it is one of these things:
Loss
Someone else’s reaction, like judgment or disappointment
Physical consequence/ pain
Embarrassment
Self Criticism
And I share a tool where you can do a deep dive into your fears and get to the heart of it, and take the power away from it. I discuss the benefits of taking risks like hiring a coach, opening a studio, buying equipment, and how whatever we do will have benefits from it even if it doesn’t go the way we hope.
So…don’t let fear sabotage your success! Take the risks! You are going to be fine, always.

It seems like everyone is suddenly talking about AI, both as a new tool and a threat to humanity (or at least creatives). I have dabbled in ChatGPT and watched a few Photoshop Beta tutorials and see where both can be helpful in my world. This is why I was so excited to have a conversation with two soulful artists, who happen to be photographers, about how we can both use artificial intelligence in photography businesses and rise above any “competition” from the robots.
I am so happy to bring you a conversation today with one of my very favorite humans in the whole world, and his equally talented sidekick. My friend, Arthur Rainville has been creating stunning photographs wrapped in intrigue, atmosphere, and romanticism for over 50 years. He’s been displayed in museums on 3 continents and has earned the title of “the poet laureate of photography.”
Arthur’s sidekick is the lovely Toni Marie. She’s had a photography business in Iowa since 1982 – the same year I started my business too! Toni Marie is a fine art photographer who also does volume photography. She is a PPA Master Craftsman, and master Artist, has earned way too many awards to list, and loves to share her passion for photography and art with fellow artists.
Give this insightful episode of The Profitable Photographer Podcast a listen as Arthur, Toni, and I discuss:
– if artificial intelligence has a role in a photography business
-the impact AI could have on your photography business
-the importance of authentic connections with your clients
-the one thing AII will never be able to replace
Interested in learning more from Arthur and Toni Marie? You’re in luck! They’re hosting an Epiphany Retreat Workshops across the country, starting with one in Atlanta and on Zoom from August 12-14! Next up is Southern California Sept 9 and 10. To register, visit this link: Epiphanyphotoretreat.com
