217: Arthur Rainville and Toni Marie – Should We Fear Artificial Intelligence?

217: Arthur Rainville and Toni Marie – Should We Fear Artificial Intelligence?

It seems like everyone is suddenly talking about AI, both as a new tool and a threat to humanity (or at least creatives). I have dabbled in ChatGPT and watched a few Photoshop Beta tutorials and see where both can be helpful in my world. This is why I was so excited to have a conversation with two soulful artists, who happen to be photographers, about how we can both use artificial intelligence in photography businesses and rise above any “competition” from the robots.

217 - Arthur Rainville and Toni Marie - Should We Fear Artificial Intelligence? Profitable Photographer with Luci Dumas

I am so happy to bring you a conversation today with one of my very favorite humans in the whole world, and his equally talented sidekick. My friend, Arthur Rainville has been creating stunning photographs wrapped in intrigue, atmosphere, and romanticism for over 50 years. He’s been displayed in museums on 3 continents and has earned the title of “the poet laureate of photography.”

Arthur’s sidekick is the lovely Toni Marie. She’s had a photography business in Iowa since 1982 – the same year I started my business too! Toni Marie is a fine art photographer who also does volume photography. She is a PPA Master Craftsman, and master Artist, has earned way too many awards to list, and loves to share her passion for photography and art with fellow artists.

Give this insightful episode of The Profitable Photographer Podcast a listen as Arthur, Toni, and I discuss:

– if artificial intelligence has a role in a photography business

-the impact AI could have on your photography business

-the importance of authentic connections with your clients

-the one thing AII will never be able to replace

Like me, Ingvild is a long-time photographer turned educator and mentor for other photographers. She even has her own podcast that you can check out, The Sustainable Photography Podcast. She specializes in helping talented, overworked photographers get back in touch with the artists they want to be so they can work with their dream clients without overworking. She does this by helping them build confidence, set boundaries, and charge what they’re worth through her 7-step program. Talk about inspiring!

I’m so excited for you to listen to our candid conversation about all about websites. Did you know that as a photographer, your website is actually one of the most powerful tools you have? It is!

Be sure to take plenty of notes as Ingvild shares with us 8 of her tried and true tips for making the most of your photography website. This includes:

  • what to have “above the fold” on your website
  • how you should let your ideal clients inspire your website design

213: Leon Johnson – How To Create Gorgeous Classic Portraits of Women

I’m so excited to welcome the great and powerful Leon Johnson to the Profitable Photographer Podcast this week!

213 - [NEW] Leon Johnson - How To Create Gorgeous Classic Portraits of Women - The Profitable Photographer Luci Dumas

Leon is not only a great friend of mine but also an award-winning portrait and fine art photographer based in Athens, Georgia. He specializes in painterly portraits and is inspired by neo-classic and romanticism periods in art. Not too surprisingly, he began loving art while living in Europe, where he became inspired by all of the beautiful architecture, sculptures, and paintings.

If this conversation with Leon doesn’t inspire you to start finding inspiration in more untraditional spaces (like he did with the tv series, Rome), then I don’t know what will.

Listen along as Leon shares with us:

  • how he’s influenced by art but doesn’t try to copy it
  • how to build trust and rapport with your clients
  • the importance of color harmony in photos
  • how to use multiple lighting scenarios and tools to create portraits

If you’re interested in learning to edit like Leon, you can find his Fine Art Editing Live Course on his website: www.leonjohnsonphotography.org/course, or you can also message him on Instagram to get the link.

Of everything that Leon shared with us today, I think I’m the biggest fan of his parting thoughts for us. What are they? You’ll have to listen to the full episode to find out, but let’s just say that your heart is involved.
